‘Tis the Season to be Creative….

P1020110.jpg1000Hi! Ho! Ho! Ho! ‘Tis the Season to be Creative, tra,la,la, la! Here are some festive gift make ideas for you and a bit about what’s on my needles at the moment.

I’ve just cast on some socks in a lovely lacy pattern I found on Pinterest, using a one off skein of Merino sock yarn with stellina sparkle, dyed in Gorgeous Yarn Toffee Apple colour. Its beautiful!! Although my intention was for these socks to be a Christmas present, I love the yarn and pattern combo so much I just might keep them for myself. I love the way the colours ripple and blend together, and they are going to make my feet the best dressed this Christmas. Ooops! That really  has given the game away that I’m keeping them.

Gorgeous Yarns has a range of sock yarns, DPNs and short cabled needles, and sock blockers, everything you need to make a loved one some cosy socks, and you’ve got enough time to be creative and get them done by Christmas! You never know, you might get the sock knitting bug, and honestly, there’s nothing more comfy on your feet than hand knitted socks. There are all sorts of patterns available, top down, toe up, short row heels, square toes, rounded toes, turned heels, the list goes on and on. Socks are not difficult if you have a bit of knitting experience, if you can knit and purl, cast on and cast off, and pick up stitches from an edge you can do socks with turned heels. All you need to do is follow the pattern carefully. If you buy sock yarn from Gorgeous Yarns, I will include a copy of my tried and tested pattern to get you started. Go on, give it a go!

Another ideal present for a loved one is a hat, scarf or mittens. We have yarns ideal for these projects, and most only take one skein. How about a beautiful scarf for a dog-walking friend, a neat beanie hat for a youngster, a lacy scarf for a special older friend, or mittens in bright colours for children.

Don’t forget, if you haven’t already signed up for our Gorgeous Yarns newsletter, there’s still time to sign up and be entered into the competition to win 2 skeins of Eden Cottage yarn and needles. The draw will be made at random on 2/12/14 and the winner’s prize will get to them well before Christmas in case they want to be creative and make something in time for  the festive season.

All yarn purchased in December will be automatically gift wrapped in lovely paper and tied with ribbon, so whether its a gift for a friend, or just for you, all you have to do is write the tag.

What projects are you making, anything for Christmas presents?

Bye for now, Caroline
