Taking care of ourselves in isolation has become vital now we are all effectively in lock-down in the UK and many other countries around the world. We need to make sure that as well as time outside and exercise we take care of our mental health and well being.
Some of you may know that I have had mental health worries for about 7 years. Its not something that I talk about often. However, I can honestly say it has had a positive effect on my life. Without my mental health problems and time off from my previous job in the NHS I would not have started Gorgeous Yarns. So good can come from a negative experience. I was an Occupational Therapist in the NHS. I trained when being an OT meant enabling people to maintain their daily living skills with creative and purposeful activity, both in mental and physical health. I personally have always been a creative, busy person, especially with yarns and fibres.
I have created some Corona Kits which I hope will tempt you to keep creating. I don’t want to be too sales-y or appear to be taking advantage of the situation we are all in. However, much research has been done about the positive benefits of purposeful activities for our well-being as part of taking care of ourselves. We need to do this even more now. The isolation and enforced time at home can be used positively to start or relearn a purposeful and creative skill. The kit will contain yarn, a knit or crochet pattern and surprise extra little gifts for you, hopefully to make you smile. Why not treat yourself, or someone you love who is isolated. Just place your order and give the delivery address, I can do the rest for you.
I hope you are keeping well, lets all keep in touch through social media and share what we are up to. I’m still working on the shawl I showed you last week, and designing a 2 needle sock pattern using Guernsey wool. More about that next week.
Bye for now,
Caroline

PS I shall have to have a new photograph taken at the end of the social isolation, my hair will be much longer by then!
