Are you thinking “socks again for Christmas?” How about making some instead of buying them and giving them as a very special gift? The mild weather we have been having has given way to the tail end of hurricane Abigail, and I don’t know about where you are but here in Cornwall it’s cold and miserable, windy and wet. More than ever I have been glad to put on my hand knitted socks, they are warm and cosy and make my feet happy!! Perfect in boots at this time of year. As you can see from the photo I have a few pairs, and more waiting to be made…(Socks) Anyone who knows me on Facebook will have seen my excitement when my new winter tree arrived, and here it is decorated with socks!
Gorgeous yarns have a selection of DPN sets, and circular needles so whichever your preferred method of making socks (toe up, top down, magic loop…) we can help. Have you ever used sock blockers? Well, I never used them until I product tested them for Gorgeous Yarns, and now I understand what the fuss is about. A sock blocker will give your socks a great finished shape, settle down the stitches to an even texture, and give your socks a professional finish, and I use the blocker after making every pair. They are worth the effort and will last you forever.
If you want a basic sock pattern, try this one, its a basic top down sock and will help you get to grips with “turning the heel” and finishing the toe so its comfy. Its the pattern I go back to again and again.
Don’t forget our competition!
This is the last week for you to enter the “win and Advent Calendar” competition. You can win an Opal sock yarns advent calendar with a mini ball of yarn behind each of the 24 doors. What will you make? Mini socks, mittens, bunting, or perhaps some wacky striped Christmas stockings! Just comment on the blog about your favourite products in the Gorgeous Yarns web shop, share this on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, and sign up for our Newsletter (at the bottom of the home page). Each of these ways will give you one entry so why not do all 5! The competition closes next Sunday when we will select the 3 winners at random, and the prize will be posted the next day, in time for the beginning of December.
Hope your week is OK, and the weather isn’t too bad, but if it is, its a good excuse to stay indoors and knit or crochet!
Bye for now, Caroline

All my family want socks for Christmas! And I get the joy of knitting them! Knitting socks has been on my bucket list for decades and I finally managed it a couple of months ago and now I can’t stop! Christmas is the perfect excuse to make socks! 😉
