Solar Dye Kits, the Seasons

Solar dye kits, the seasons have been re-imagined from the full sets of the 4 seasons and you can now get each season separately. If you want a complete set to take you through a year of solar dyeing, click here.

The dyes in the kit are already weighed for you, and the kit includes an alum mordant (fixative) if needed. Each kit also contains full instructions, health and safety advice and latex free gloves.

The Solar Dye kits for each season are created to dye protein fibres like wool, alpaca, silk etc.

Each Solar Dye Kit comes in 2 sizes:

The small kit doesn’t include any yarn, just the dyes. This size is ideal if you already have natural yarn or fibre to dye, and a Kilner jar to put your kit into.

The medium kit has 100g skein of luxury yarn as well as the dyes. You still need a jar to put this kit into.

Spring Solar Kit

Contains rich purple from Logwood with yellow and blue to create yellows and greens, reminiscent of crocuses. The Medium kit has Merino and silk yarn

Summer Solar Kit

Think of bright roses, peonies and other summer blooms, these gorgeous colours are the rich colours in this kit. The medium kit has 100% alpaca yarn

Autumn Solar Kit

With madder rust and golden yellow, this kit reminds me of a walk through autumn leaves. The medium kit has BFL and silk yarn

Winter Solar Kit

Frosty blue and white, this kit contains a liquid dye and is quick to do. The medium kit has BLF sparkle yarn

Most of the natural dyes in these kits are available separately too if you are already a confident solar dyer.

NB. The kits do not dye cellulose fibres like cotton, linen, bamboo and hemp very well, if at all.
