Natural Dye workshops

Would you like to host an natural dye workshop and learn how to naturally dye yarns in a venue close to home?

I can offer natural dye workshops customised to your level of learning, in a supported, face to face setting. I have a wide variety of experience in teaching natural dyeing and I encourage questions throughout the workshop so you never have to feel stuck.

How does it work?

I am able to travel to you (within reasonable distances) and set up at the location of your choice to teach you and a group of friends. At the venue I will need water and a power socket. I bring all the equipment we will need to naturally dye the skeins of yarn provided. I need a minimum of 5 participants (or the equivalent fee) and I can teach a maximum of 10 in one session. The session will last for about 6 hours, usually starting at 10.00 with breaks for hot drinks and snacks. (not included in the cost of the day.)  During the morning session I will teach you all about natural dyes, a bit about their history and use and colour through the ages. We will also learn about mordants, fixing colours, substantive and fugitive dyes and I will bust some of the myths about natural dyeing. We will have a practical session; setting up and using traditional method dye baths and you will dye your skeins of yarn. In the afternoon session we will continue with more advanced dye techniques such as ombre, twist and capillary dyeing.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary according to your location and whether I need to stay overnight somewhere.

Generally the cost is around £120 per person for 6 hours of face to face teaching, including all the dyes and yarns, plus travel and any accommodation expenses. (I am based in Cornwall.)
