Alpaca & Merino DK, Naturally Dyed

Alpaca & Merino DK comes in a variety of beautiful naturally dyed shades for all your knitting, crochet and weaving projects.

The yarn:

Alpaca & merino DK yarn is soft and luxurious, perfect for special children’s clothes, accessories like scarves and cowls, or as garments. Merino wool is very fine and soft and combines well with alpaca fibre to give lovely soft garments with some stitch definition. The combination of Alpaca & Merino DK means the yarn drapes well so can be used for shawls, drape cardigans etc. Why not choose one of our patterns?

The colours:

Please  note, colours won’t always be from the same dye batch, so if you need more than 1 or 2 skeins, let me know and I can custom dye for you in the quantity you need for you project. These yarns are carefully hand dyed so there will be subtle tonal variations in the skeins which makes them even more beautiful!

All the colours are fixed with a mineral mordant (alum) which ensures they are light and colourfast. The dyes are all natural, and the mordant is safe and environmentally friendly. No nasty chemicals here!

Purple: dyed with Cudbear lichen (sustainably sourced) or Logwood

Lavender: also dyed with Cudbear lichen or logwood

Briar Rose pink: dyed with Cudbear lichen (Limited edition colour)

Bright Pink: dyed with cochineal

Yellow: dyed with chamomile or marigolds

Aqua: dyed with tincture of Indigo, known as Saxon Blue

Pale green: dyed with aquilegias, spirulina or a mixture of chamomile and Saxon blue.

Mustard: dyed with Rhubarb root or Buckthorn bark

Brown: dyed with pH adjusted madder
