Crochet blanket

Hello Friends in 2016!

Hello Friends in 2016! Where did 2015 go? Sorry I haven’t blogged sooner this year to say Happy New Year to old friends and new, but I’m back in action at Gorgeous Yarns HQ and pleased to be able to chat again!

You may remember the Advent Calendar competition I ran in October and November last year, well here is a picture of the finished article I made from all those mini balls of Opal sock yarn…a crochet ripple blanket which has been lovely and cosy over the Christmas and New Year period. The colours are bright and cheerful, not at all what I would combine, but somehow, it works and I love it! I was having a bit of a sort out of my stash, and found some bits of left over sock yarn so I have added a coloured border which finished it off. What do you think?

I might add another cream edge (Purely Gorgeous ) and then perhaps a bobble stitch in an aqua yarn I also have left over from socks. (Are you getting the idea that I like making socks too!) I’ll post pictures on Instagram when I do.

This leads me on to tell you that this year in the mini articles I write for Inside Crochet, I am going to teach myself a new stitch each month, and I have been very inspired by the Sampler Blanket in this month’s edition. I think I will use a muted palette or greys, aqua and charcoal and I’m excited to learn the new stitches and put them into practice! I also have an idea, inspired by Attic24 and my friend Tamsyn aka Crochet Made, to make a sampler lampshade. I know it sounds a bit weird, but I think it will work, so I’ll post pics as I go and you can let me know what you think!

My other WIP is a cardigan from an Imperial Stock Ranch pattern in  Tracie too. Its been a challenging pattern but I’ve got it now, (on the fourth attempt) and I’m enjoying making it. If I had concentrated more when I started it, it would have been easier to master, the fault is mine not the pattern! I love the teal blue Tracie too yarn, its knitting up beautifully and I’m hoping it will be a perfect cardigan for early spring.

I have ordered the 4ply Gorgeous Yarns Purely Gorgeous I mentioned in the Newsletter, I have chosen the one with silk and Merino, and I know you will love it as much as I do! When its available to buy, hopefully not too long to wait now, I will let you know. Treat yourself! Its perfect for special things, light weight garments with gentle drape, or a lovely soft scarf or shawl, beautifully elegant, and in a natural cream so it will go with everything in your wardrobe. A dear friend has designed a christening gown pattern with it, which I hope to have available soon too.

Did you know, Susan Crawford has a new book coming out soon, Vintage Shetland, which uses her beautiful Excelana yarns. Gorgeous Yarns are having a mini sale of Excelana so you can treat yourself to the yarns to make some of her lovely vintage inspired garments.

That’s about all the news fro Gorgeous Yarns HQ this week, hello friends, old and new, happy 2016!

Bye for now, Caroline

RIP Ikon, dearest dog, featured on Walk in the Park and Its a Breeze patterns. Much loved and missed.
